Dr. Jacob Hood, played by Rufus Sewell (better known for his roles in films like A knight’s Tale, The Tourist or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is one of those consultants. He’s a biophysicist.

 

He is called by the FBI whenever the case presents some sort of natural scientific abnormalities, in order to keep information out of the hands of those who might use it in unethical ways. Of excruciating importance for the FBI, as any brilliant mind he reserves himself the right to some odd traits of personality.

 

Because of his low attention span, poor social skills and horrible survival instincts he gets stuck with a babysitter: Special Agent Rachel Young (Marley Shelton) has quite a challenge of a job – to keep the doctor safe from both the outside attack but mostly from himself and his bad decisions.The more they dig into cases, the more they get caught into the horrifying results of scientific experiments and this puts them into a delicate position of ethics and work.
